As an artist, researcher, and educator, I integrate Arts-Based Research (ABR) methods to explore the intersection of artmaking and disability. I encourage students to explore their lived experiences through arts-based approaches and view art as a process rather than solely an object. Incorporating arts-based teaching methods supports different ways of knowing and being in the world and benefits students across a wide range of differences. ABR also emphasizes narrative and embodied ways of knowing, enabling verbal and non-verbal communication and alternative forms of scholarship, and creating a sense of agency in students.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in creating inclusive, equitable, and empathetic learning environments where diversity is celebrated, and students are empowered to critically engage with the world around them. By embracing a Critical Disability Studies perspective in Art Education, my teaching philosophy encourages students to critically analyze social and cultural environments and strive to create equitable opportunities and resources for students from diverse backgrounds.
